METTE WINCKELMANN: BELIEF AND SUPERSTITUION

PERMANENT PUBLIC COMISSION, VIBORG KUNSTHALLE, VIBORG, DK

BELIEF AND SUPERSTITUION BY METTE WINCKELMANN

Viborg Kunsthalle, Riddergade 8, 8800 Viborg, DK

Around Viborg Kunsthalle, visual artist Mette Winckelmann's 151 meter long mosaic wall greets the Kunsthalles visitors. The wall shields the traffic on Lille Sct. Mikkelsgade and Randersvej and wraps Viborg Kunsthal in a fine mosaic pattern. When you move on the tiled walkway through the garden, you will quickly discover a magnificent ornament that can change its appearance depending on the wind and weather. The decoration of the wall consists of a good 34 tonnes of concrete tiles in shades of grey, which together make up 211 patterns made of tiles in five shades of grey. The patterns are traditionally used for patchwork rugs and all refer to faith, religion and man's eternal search for truth and answers.
