NIELS PUGHOLM: KARAKTÉRES

SOLO EXHIBITION, C4 PROJECTS, COPENHAGEN, DK

KARAKTÉRES BY NIELS PUGHOLM

C4 Projects, Dybbølsgade 60, 1721 Copenhagen

Around the 200s B.C. The Greek philosopher Theophrastus wrote Karacteres. As the title suggests, it is a study in different human characters, such as the sleazy, the critical, the one with false youthfulness. Despite the changing course of world history with wars and epidemics, changing religions and worldviews, passing systems and ideologies, the characters seem to have steadfastly survived the test of time, from Theophrastus' ancient Greece to our present day. This to such an extent that the author Jan Sonnergaard later wrote "Theofrast's analysis cover amazingly well what you can encounter every single day in today's Denmark, if you make the mistake of leaving your house."

Based on Karaktéres, Niels Pugholm has modeled 12 busts.
