HANNAH HEILMANN: MY LAURA ASHLEY DRESSES

SOLO EXHIBITION, VESTJYLLANDS KUNSTPAVILLION, VIDEBÆK, DK

MY LAURA ASHLEY DRESSES BY HANNAH HEILMANN

Vestjyllands Kunstpavillion, Arne Haugen Sørensen Museum, Henning Larsens vej 3, 6920 Videbæk

My Laura Ashley Dresses revolves around the artist's love for and obsession with the English fashion brand Laura Ashley, and the shop as a performative space. Arranging an exhibition of Laura Ashley dresses and other ephemera with her own painting, Heilmann arrives at a setting that resembles a stage set and a trade fair booth, channeling ideas of function, romance, luxury and modesty set through the blurred lens of stylistic . periods. If this brand analysis of the Laura Ashley-look becomes a lens to look at fashion as a consumer culture and desire-driven economy, the sustainability of which is difficult to defend, then the exhibition simultaneously evokes notions of how fashion as a pop-cultural language can be a mode of processing emotions about the crises that characterize our time. A daydream of guilt, melancholy, confusion and hope.
